Dr Tonya Stokes

Qualifications: BVSc (Hons), BAnimSc, MANZCVS (Small Animal Medicine), Grad Cert (Shelter Medicine)

Biography:

Tonya is committed to improving the welfare of animals as well as the veterinarians looking after them. She has held a variety of lead veterinarian and veterinary management roles in general practice, teaching hospital and shelter environments. She has worked internationally in animal welfare, disaster management and the practical application of clinical communication skills.

Tonya has mentored countless undergraduate veterinarians and continues to coordinate outreach services for rural and remote communities. She is a true mixed animal veterinarian, having worked with sheep, cattle, horses and small animals at different times in her career.

More recently, Tonya has become invested in helping veterinarians achieve resilience and great clinical practice with the resources they have at their fingertips. In particular, she is interested in helping vets to manage navigate daily practice with effective client communication and teamwork.

Tonya has 3 kids, a veterinary surgeon husband, and a veritable zoo of ex-shelter rescue animals. When she's not engaged with family or working on veterinary projects, Tonya might be heard playing the piano, seen adopting a yoga pose, or found on hiking trails in the wilderness.
