Is This Workshop For You?
Periocular & Corneal Surgery – All in One Workshop
Some come for the surgery. Others for the education and the social vibe. Many attend because they want to offer a broader scope of ophthalmology services in practice. Whatever your motivation, you’re welcome here.
This workshop is designed to deliver a CPD experience that is engaging, highly practical, and immediately applicable in general practice, regardless of your current experience level.
Got a scalpel blade and some 8/0 suture? A bottle of fake tears and a tube of Tricin?
Not so fast.
Ophthalmic surgery demands precision, magnification and respect for tissue handling. Throughout the weekend, you’ll be trained to operate using surgical loupes, reflecting current best practice in periocular and corneal procedures – and once you try it, you won’t go back.
Even highly experienced GP veterinarians walk away with valuable updates and refreshed skills across both diagnostic examination and surgery.
Key Ophthalmology Skills You’ll Refine:
Distance & close examination & reflex assessment
Direct ophthalmoscopy & retroillumination techniques
Lens assessment using a slit beam
Binocular & monocular indirect ophthalmoscopy
Fundic examination of the optic disc, retinal vessels & tapetal retina
Reliable tonometry readings
Nasolacrimal flush technique
Loupes on!
BYO if you already use them, or trial and purchase on-site. Hands-on guidance provided to help you select loupes suitable for periocular and corneal surgery. Practice with intent.
Why This Workshop is Different
Hands-on Surgery
With over 9.5 hours of surgical practice, you’ll perform a wide range of periocular and corneal procedures on your own specimen. More time operating means more confidence when you return to practice.
Learn from Specialist Ophthalmologists
Train alongside four specialist veterinary ophthalmologists, available throughout the entire workshop. Get real-time feedback, practical tips, and clinical insight you can immediately apply in practice.
Bridge the Gap Between GP & Referral
This course sits perfectly between everyday GP ophthalmology and specialist referral. Build the skills and confidence to manage more complex cases in-house, and know when referral is the right call.
Sharpen Your Diagnostic Eye
Refine your ophthalmic examination techniques to extract meaningful diagnostic information. Improve case workups, decision-making, and surgical planning from the very first consult.
Practical, Relevant & Immediately Useful
Everything taught is designed to be realistic for general practice. Leave with techniques, workflows, and recommendations you can implement straight away, not “someday”.
This Workshop Helps You With:
Better Diagnosis
Strengthen your ophthalmic examination skills to extract meaningful diagnostic information. Learn how to assess ocular structures systematically, interpret findings with confidence, and use your results to guide appropriate treatment and surgical decisions.
Surgical Confidence
Build practical, hands-on experience in periocular and corneal surgery under the guidance of specialist ophthalmologists. Improve your technique, decision-making, and comfort in the surgical space so you can approach ophthalmic cases with greater assurance.
Smarter Case Management
Develop clearer surgical plans and case management strategies backed by specialist insight. Understand when to manage in-house, when surgery is indicated, and when referral is the best option for optimal patient outcomes.
