Endoscopy is the coolest diagnostic tool.

Want to spend two full days learning upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and upper airway endoscopy in small animals? This workshop presents one of the rarest opportunities in veterinary education today. Strictly limited, participants at this workshop get to learn procedural skills in a real clinical environment with live teaching dogs under veterinary specialist care and full ethics approval. With a total of 9 hours’ practical time and superb endoscopes at your fingertips, this experience will change your diagnostic toolkit forever.

Pro tips for endoscopy in clinical practice

Compared with surgery, upper GI and airway endoscopy offers a less invasive option for foreign body retrievals and diagnostic workups. General practice, emergency and referral vets will find that a successful endoscopy can decrease anaesthetic and procedure time as well as offer faster recovery times for patients.

What’s the catch? To get good at endoscopy, you need hands-on training. We’ve put together this course to get you 2 full days of in-person training because lectures are great, but hands-on training is better. Bonus: tilting your head to the side and twisting your torso as you round the bend towards the duodenum is a superpower you already have. We’ll show you.

Jokes aside, our goal is to make endoscopy an enjoyable and natural part of your diagnostic toolkit.

Your skills will develop quickly with our experienced education team

  • Full procedural guidance from start to finish
  • Machine setup & image manipulation
  • Techniques for great images
  • Viable biopsy collection
  • Foreign body removal
  • PEG tube placement
  • Bronchoscopy
  • How to look cool while you’re scoping

A little word on equipment

The good old fibre optic endoscopes are still out there, with their chunky eyepieces and missing fibres, and those insufflation systems that only work if the tubing is kinked just-so. It might sound obvious, but it’s worth acknowledging that the quality of your equipment has a significant impact on your experience and on your ability to deliver consistent, diagnostic results. After years of battling fibre optic scopes, your lead educator and small animal internal medicine specialist Dr Richard Burchell recommends video endoscopy as the way forward. If you have one of these in your clinic, your endoscopy journey just got a lot easier.

If you’re in the market…

Participants at this workshop will train on high quality video endoscopes with large screens so your colleagues can all crowd around and gaze adoringly at your skills. These are demonstration units supplied by our training partners, and you will have the opportunity to negotiate the purchase of brand new equipment if you’re keen. There is absolutely no obligation to buy anything. We’re just letting you know in case your clinic is interested in a new unit, and you’d like to try it out before you and your clinic make the investment.
