This is the broadest clinical skills workshop VetPrac offers, bringing together an extensive range of practical procedures, diagnostic techniques and in-house pathology skills that make a real difference in everyday veterinary practice. You’ll gain the confidence to perform essential clinical and emergency procedures, collect quality diagnostic samples, interpret results, and move your cases forward with greater accuracy and efficiency.
If you feel your in-house laboratory could be giving you more useful information, you’re probably right, but that’s only part of the picture. Before you run the tests, you need to know which procedures to perform, how to obtain quality samples safely, and which diagnostic tests will provide the greatest value. We’ll help you build a more structured approach to clinical workups and cover those investigations specialists casually ask whether you’ve already performed before referral.
Whether you’ve performed these procedures countless times or simply haven’t had the opportunity to do them before, this workshop gives you the chance to refresh existing skills, learn new techniques and fine-tune your diagnostic approach. Your Educators
Dr Julian Lunn
Qualifications: BVSc, MANZCVS (Small Animal Surgery and Small Animal Medicine), MVetClinStud (Neurology)
Julian has worked at Veterinary Specialist Services (VSS) in Qld and Animal Referral and Emergency Centre (AREC) in NSW. He has also been a clinician and teacher at the University of Sydney, James Cook University and the University of Queensland.
He has memberships in both small animal medicine and small animal surgery and completed his surgical residency in 2007 with time at Murdoch University and Colorado State University. He also has a Masters of Veterinary Clinical Studies.
Julian has experience in all areas of surgery from cardiothoracic, oncology and vascular to orthopaedic, neurological and trauma. He is a passionate teacher and is keen to share real-world surgery with both undergraduate students and postgraduate veterinary surgeons.
Dr Terry King
Qualifications:BVSc, MANZCVS, Honorary FANZCVS
Blessed with being able to work and learn with veterinarians all over this country and the World, Terry is adamant that Australian veterinary care is second to none. Terry is a committed family pet practitioner, loves the animal-person bond, and undertakes to prolong it.
Devoted to the veterinary profession, Terry has strived to repay it and his colleagues for the enjoyment and friendships he’s received by serving on various committees and sometimes office bearer on Brisbane Veterinary Practitioner Branch of AVA, AVA Qld, ASAVA, and the ANZCVS. He has been external examiner, guest lecturer and tutor at UQ’s School of Veterinary Science as well membership examiner for ANZCVS. Terry is presently an examiner for the AVE.
Dr John Mallyon
Qualifications:BVSc, MANZCVS
John is a recently retired Teaching Focussed Academic from the University of Qld where he taught from 2008 until December 2026. John has been an examiner for the Australian Veterinary Boards Council since 2014 and until 2026, an examiner for ANZCVS. John is a two-time recipient of the Trevor Heath Teaching Excellence award and has a Deans Commendation for effective teaching. John is an Australian wine enthusiast and a cricket tragic.
Dr Tonya Stokes
Qualifications:BVSc (Hons), BAnimSc, MANZCVS (Small Animal Medicine), Grad Cert (Shelter Medicine)
Tonya’s mission is to improve the welfare of animals as well as the veterinarians looking after them. She has held a variety of lead veterinarian roles in general practice, teaching hospital and shelter environments, and has completed extensive volunteer veterinary work all over the globe. Tonya is a true mixed animal veterinarian, having worked with sheep, cattle, horses and small animals at different times in her career. She is invested in helping veterinarians achieve resilience and great clinical practice with the resources at their fingertips.
Dr Sarah Stallard
Qualifications: BVSc MANZCVS Cert IVUSS
Sarah graduated from the University of Bristol in the UK and migrated to Australia shortly afterwards. She began her career in emergency and critical care, obtaining her memberships with ANZCVS. She then settled in Cairns and established her ultrasound company. She completed a Graduate Certificate in Abdominal Ultrasound at the University of Melbourne, followed by certification with the International Veterinary Ultrasound Society (IVUSS). Sarah now divides her time between working in specialist practice and running a mobile ultrasound company in Brisbane, she also mentors others through the IVUSS certification program.
Dr Daniel McDonald
Qualifications:BVSc MANZCVS (Small Animal Surgery) Dip ECVS
Daniel grew up on the Sunshine Coast and attended James Cook University in Townsville, where he graduated in 2013. He began an internship with North Coast Veterinary Specialist (now SASH) on the Sunshine Coast in 2019 and successfully completed his Residency in Small Animal Surgery in July 2024. In February 2026, Daniel passed his European Board examinations and is now a specialist in Small Animal Surgery. Daniel has a keen interest in all aspects of surgery, with a particular focus on orthopaedic and minimally invasive procedures, including laparoscopy and arthroscopy.

You’re not expected to leave as a specialist. Instead, you’ll return to practice with greater confidence, a broader clinical skill set, and practical techniques you can apply to your very next case.
"Will I receive CPD points, a certificate, and learning materials?"
Yes. Every participant in the Clinical Procedures & In-House Pathology Workshop will earn CPD points and receive a personalised CPD certificate, emailed within seven days of the workshop. You’ll also receive comprehensive learning materials, including digital course notes and a printed practical guide, so you can continue revisiting key techniques and tips long after the workshop.
"What happens if I need to cancel or the workshop is cancelled?"
If you need to transfer or change your registration to another workshop, an administration fee of $50 applies. Cancellations made within 45 days of the workshop start date will incur a fee equal to 50% of the course investment, and cancellations within 7 days of commencement are non-refundable.
