Is This Course for You?

If you’re a qualified vet nurse or tech and want to play a more proactive, empowered role in canine recovery, this course was designed to get you moving.

Practice has never been busier and for many of us rehab has slid into the realms of afterthought. You’re already seeing post-op, injured, neurological and arthritic patients, to name a few. Time to set your sights on a truly multimodal rehabilitation approach driven towards safe,  meaningful and consistently better results. Five online evening sessions provide the key to building practical, relevant skills to begin your journey in canine rehabilitation.

You’ll Cover:

  • What planned, results-based canine rehabilitation looks like in practice
  • Which patients may benefit & when to refer
  • The role of rehab in GP & specialist settings
  • Which aids & equipment help different patients, & how
  • The ways in which tissue healing (type and speed) affect recovery plan & exercise choices
  • What canine normal gait & posture should look like, & gait assessment
  • Supporting appropriate confinement & deciding the right timeline for return to activity
  • How to use motivation & luring safely & effectively
  • Foundational exercises: what they are, why they matter, how to use them

You don’t need to already be working in rehabilitation to get value from this course, and it’s actually the perfect place to start if you aren’t. It provides a practical framework some underpinning principles you need.  Rehabilitation skills are immensely valuable across the vast majority of areas of canine practice.

Why This Course is Different

CPD that Moves Around You

Long days, short lunches, busy life. CPD can end up on the back burner. This course runs live via Zoom at 7:30pm AEST on Thursday evenings, so it doesn’t take over.

Live, Participatory & Individualised

With 45 minutes of delivered content and then a full 30 minutes set aside for your Q&A, this CPD covers the Q’s you and your peers really want answers to.

Prioritise the Parts that Matter

Never considered canine rehab as anything more than a little bit of clinical cleanup? Let us show you the difference it makes. Your only regret will be not doing this sooner.

One Building Block at a Time

If you’re not really sure what canine rehabilitation means beyond bend and flex, there’s no shame here. We welcome beginners as well as those with some experience.

Practical & Purposeful

We won’t teach you anything you don’t need to know, or anything you can’t apply to further your practice and improve your patient outcomes. We promise.

Course Outline

Module 1: Introduction to Canine Rehabilitation

Illustrate the meaning of rehabilitation, as it applies to canine practice. Recognise good rehab candidates (and compliant owners!), and discuss which patients should be referred.

Module 2: Rehabilitation in Practice

Discuss use of rehab in GP and specialist centres. Compare aids and equipment which may be suitable, and be aware of where to source them.

Module 3: Healing & Return to Activity

Compare the speed at which bones, tendons, ligaments and muscle heal and select suitable confinement periods. Prescribe ‘return to activity’ appropriately. Know what normal canine gait and posture look like.

Module 4: Motivating Movement

Outline what we use ‘luring’ for and find the right motivation for your patient. Be aware of how to ensure safety throughout exercises.

Module 5: Foundations for Success

Recognise what foundational exercises are, why they are important and which one(s) to choose. Assess the individual dog and client and set them up for success.

Addressing Common Questions

Is Canine Rehabilitation for Nurses & Techs worth the investment?

Yes – and it’s worth saying that not all CPD is created equal. This course is priced to be accessible within the average CPD budget, and the value you get far exceeds the cost. This kind of training pays for itself quickly because it directly improves how you handle cases you see every week. When you look at the return on investment, it’s a truly tangible upgrade to how your practice runs. Consider these compact, impactful CPD servings without undue budget stretching.

I’m short on time and my CPD hours need to matter. Why this course?

Pick this course because rehab is where the quiet wins happen.

It’s not being a hero during the dramatic emergency or the big surgery. It’s the bit after, that goes on a whole lot longer. The part that decides whether a patient returns to good function, comfort and quality of life, or just gets by.

The importance of this space is so easy to underestimate. Once you start making rehab a priority you’ll wonder how this cornerstone of recovery ever finds itself forgotten.

Is this real-world ready?

Yes, completely. This course has its feet planted firmly in real world practice.

It teaches the awareness, tools and confidence that enable evidence-based decision making: safe exercise choices, having the owner compliance conversations, and knowing when referral is the right call. Overseeing and supporting  return to activity and recognising when the plan needs to change are also fundamentals that you can apply immediately… not just think about or tuck away as CPD under your belt.
