Real skills for real results in canine rehab, one dog at a time

This is the ultimate choice for vets who want to learn canine rehabilitation from the ground up. Starting with foundational knowledge, you’ll learn underpinning theory and practical application, as well as the best advice to give those worried clients about their ‘homework’.

Learn to take a proactive approach and intervene early to achieve the best outcomes for your surgical and musculoskeletal cases. This 2 day weekend workshop will deliver tutorials and hands-on practicals that’ll have assessing stance, gait, muscles and fascia like a pro. By Monday, you’ll be building effective rehab plans for your patients, and be equipped with the knowledge to review and adapt these as needed.

Recovery is more than just rest. Rehab is practical, logical, easy to apply, and it does work! Not every post-spinal case that isn’t recovering well is a candidate for the final end-of-life discussion; with rehab expertise and commitment many of these cases do surprisingly well.

WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR?

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is the perfect choice for vets – most of all GPs – working in mixed or small animal practice who want to go above and beyond for patients recovering from surgery or injury. All experience levels are welcome.

Meet your expert educators

Our expert educators include Dr Naomi Boyd, a Specialist in Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Dr Yoko Clinch (MANZCVS Veterinary Radiology and Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation – Canine). Both are passionate advocates for making rehab an expected cornerstone of recovery. Rehab can make a striking difference to long-term outcomes, patient comfort, mobility and quality of life, plus – a happy bonus – client satisfaction.

What you’ll learn

Participants will start with grassroots essentials: examination of the spine, limbs and soft tissues, and movement analysis. You’ll then step into neuro exams and lesion localisation, detailed stance, gait and ROM assessments, including use of goniometry. Plus planning and reviewing your patient’s response to therapeutic exercises and complete rehab programs that go beyond ‘rest and NSAIDs’.

Learn by doing

Like all VetPrac workshops, Practical Canine Rehabilitation is highly interactive and hands-on. You’ll rotate through real patient stations, work in small groups, get hands-on (volunteer dogs), and, with our educators on standby, fine-tune your skills with immediate feedback. Expect to move, observe, measure, palpate, and problem-solve -because you don’t learn rehab by sitting still!

Tackling common clinical challenges

We know the common pain points: diagnosing subtle lameness when the dog looks ‘fine in the hallway’, and palpating muscles that just feel like, well… muscles. This workshop is designed to tackle those challenges with advice on where to start when it comes to planning effective rehab regimes.

Skills you can use right away

The skills you gain here will be immediately useful, whether you’re working with post-op ortho or neuro cases or the ‘weekend warrior’ Labrador with three modes: ballistic, limping, and sleeping. You’ll be ready to assess, treat, and explain rehab plans to owners who expect magic by tomorrow.

We pride ourselves on our weekend workshops being energetic, encouraging, and fun. You’ll meet peers who get the chaos of daily practice, and walk away not just with better skills, but a renewed sense of excitement about making a difference.
