Customised Anaesthesia Training For Your Clinic
In Clinic or Live Online
From premed to recovery, optimised your way.
Is This Training For Your Team?
Anaesthesia is a true cornerstone of veterinary medicine – without it, where would we be? This training is valuable for all small animal practices who anaesthetise their pateints, but especially those who want anaesthesia to feel calmer, more consistent, and with less reactive firefighting. This is an area where improvement is always within your grasp, and where there’s no one-size-fits-all system.
Let us tailor a package that precisely fits your people and your practice. We’ll ask you all the right questions before we set sail to make sure we curate your in-clinic training right down to the drugs you use and whether or not you have a syringe driver – that’s our promise to you.
Tell Us Your Priorities – Popular Topics Include:
Anaesthesia machine set-up
Anaesthesia breathing systems
- The drugs used in your practice – making them work their best for you
- Drug calculations
- Constant rate infusions for anaesthesia
- Interactive simulated anaesthesia monitoring session – highly recommended for all practices
- Capnography and ECG
You likely have different anaesthetic routines depending on “who’s on” – perhaps you’d like more consistency across shifts. It may be that your team is solidly competent and can rise to white-knuckle moments, but you want fewer near-misses with trickier patients. You’d also like every vet, nurse and tech to be clear on monitoring, and feel confident about when to escalate.
Perhaps you have newer staff who need a solid framework, to avoid feeling thrown in at the deep end… maybe an equipment run-through would be time well spent.
Ultimately, you want a team approach where everyone knows their role, and communication is smooth from premed to recovery.

Some of our amazing educators
Dr Margie McEwen
Qualifications: BVSc DACVAA MANZCVS
Margie is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia.
Many vets and nurses will agree that Margie’s warmth and her willingness to share her clinical and academic experience have been instrumental in their careers. Margie maintains, however, that it was her years in private practice rather than her academic accolades which keep her tuned in to the reality of veterinary medicine. Margie continues to teach anaesthesia and analgesia in VetPrac’s hands-on workshops and online courses, as she continues her mission for lifelong learning.
Dr Ema Bowman
Qualifications:BVSc (Distinction), MANZCVS
Ema is a 2008 Massey University graduate with memberships in internal medicine, and significant training in anaesthesia. Ema has extensive clinical experience in GP and specialist hospitals within New Zealand, Australia, and North America.
Ema performs multiple BOAS surgeries every week, focused on proactive multi-level upper airway surgery, brachy-safe anaesthesia, and tailored preoperative and postoperative risk reduction.
Ema’s dream is a career where BOAS surgery is no longer needed. Until then, she continues to be a vocal advocate for every brachycephalic patient.
Charleyne Wineberg
Qualifications: VTS (Anesthesia & Analgesia), DipVN (Emergency & Critical Care), Certificate IV TAE
Charleyne brings over 23 years of veterinary nursing experience across Australia. She spent 14 years in clinical general practice across multiple states before transitioning into specialist veterinary hospitals, where she has worked for the past nine years.
Her specialist career began in Emergency and Critical Care before she discovered her passion for anaesthesia and analgesia. She has worked within the University of Sydney in both the Veterinary Teaching Hospital environment and later moved into advanced translational medical research, working as a veterinary technician specialising in anaesthesia within both the rodent and large animal sectors. In 2023, she received an Innovation Award for her work advancing anaesthesia equipment in the rodent sector.
In 2024, Charleyne achieved her VTS (Anaesthesia & Analgesia), reflecting her advanced expertise and commitment to best practice. She continues to work in a clinical capacity, remaining actively involved in patient care while supporting and educating veterinary teams.

Addressing Common Questions
"Is customised anaesthesia training for your clinic worth it?”
Yes – if your clinic does anaesthesia regularly, this course pays off exceptionally quickly through improved staff confidence, less “system friction”, better patient care, and more consistently good outcomes.
This training is far from generic. It’s individually matched to your teams skill set, your machine set-up, and the way you run cases (or the way you’d like to). Most clinics find the value of this course is endless! It empowers your staff, allowing for less wasted time and more attention to be provided to other patients (not to mention, time = money). It also provides a framework for fewer near-misses, and a team that moves in sync.
"We’re busy every day. Why should we block out a whole day for this?"
Because the point is to make your busy days easier and smoother.
A full day lets us work with your team, your machines, your gear, your drugs, and your routines. We then turn this into a consistent approach that works for everyone, and most of all, for the animals relying on your care – who never more heavily depend on us than during anaesthesia.
If a full day isn’t right for you just now, you’ve still got options. Our In-person Lunch & Learn is a rapid and high-impact way to tighten up one or two key areas without taking the whole day offline. Or our Zoom learning provides a flexible and highly accessible way to upskill all of your aneasthesia team players at the same time.
"Will our team actually be able to apply these skills after the training?"
Yes. This CPD is designed to translate straight into your next anaesthetic. We’ll gather all the information that we need about your setup and specific training needs before our session, so that we can target your team’s anaesthesia weak spots on the day.
Even our Zoom package can still be practical, if that’s what you need. You might prefer a Q&A or case-based discussion session, or perhaps you want to prioritise an on-camera breathing system and machine set-up run through… or CRIs, for those not faint of heart!
