Advanced Othopaedics

Revolutionising Healing: Precision Plating for Better Recovery

This weekend workshop is the next step for registered veterinarians with a strong interest in orthopaedics and a solid base of surgical experience, who want to offer more advanced techniques for canine humeral condyle and feline pelvic fracture trauma. Committed participants from general practice, referral practice, emergency and residency programs are encouraged to participate.

Day one is all about the pelvis, and day two shifts focus to the elbows. The next time you’re presented with a client’s feline family member who has had an unfortunate run-in with a car, you’ll be well placed to help. Likewise, that young English Springer Spaniel with the fractured humeral condyles will be in good hands with you.

Through a balanced mix of tutorials and hands-on practicals, our expert orthopaedic surgeons will guide you through the whole approach, from pre-operative assessment and planning your surgery, right through to the actual doing.

WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR?

This weekend workshop is tailored for licensed veterinarians who have a keen interest in orthopaedics and a solid foundation of experience, aiming to improve their skills in canine humeral condyle and feline pelvic fracture repairs. Those who prefer a hands-on learning environment with numerous opportunities for focused individual feedback are well suited to join.

What’s on offer?

  • Hours of interactive wet lab based learning
  • Clinically relevant tutorials and demos from seasoned orthopaedic surgeons
  • Experienced, approachable educators on-hand throughout the entire weekend to provide feedback (and a few tips from the trenches)
  • Hands-on practice with specialised implants including:
    • Feline Lateral Iliac Plate (FLIP)
    • Feline Acetabular Anatomic Plate (ACE)
    • Humeral Intercondylar Repair System (HIRS)
    • Humeral Intracondylar Stabilisation System (HISS)
    • Lateral Epicondylar Anatomic Plate (LEAP)
    • Medial Anatomic Plate (MAP)

VetPrac is committed to delivering workshops that are highly interactive, hands-on and skills-based. One of the  biggest challenges encountered in orthopaedics is that there are few consequence-free opportunities to practice where our patients are concerned. The value of this participation-centered workshop lies in the stress-free time spent on the tools.

You’ll have the opportunity to perform advanced surgical techniques to repair iliac and acetabular fractures, including the use of ACE & FLIP plates with real time X-ray review for instant instructor feedback. Gain new understanding of the best way to approach each individual canine elbow, including using the HIRS; placing HISS implants, as well as LEAP and MAP, and where these may be used in tandem.
