Biography:
Johana grew up in Reunion Island. She graduated from Murdoch University Veterinary School in Perth in 2003. Following two years in general practice in Darwin, she completed a small animal internship combined with a Masters Degree at the University of Melbourne.
Johana then undertook four-year residency in veterinary ophthalmology at the University of Liege, Belgium and was admitted to the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 2013.
Johana worked as a Veterinary Ophthalmologist in the UK in private practice and was head of the Ophthalmology Unit at the Animal Health Trust before returning to Australia in 2017, when she worked took a position at SASH in Sydney. Johana also has full specialist registration as a veterinary ophthalmologist in Australia.
Since 2022, she has been part of the ophthalmology team at Veterinary Specialist Services in Jindalee, Queensland.
Johana has trained several residents through the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists and Australian New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists. She is also a reviewer for several international veterinary journals. Her main research interests are cataract and glaucoma surgery, and ocular pharmacology.
In her spare time, Johana enjoys camping and trekking, scuba diving and spending time with her family.
