Biography:
Alena has a wealth of experience in human and animal medicine, business, mentoring, training, and research. She began her career as a Registered Nurse in Adult Mental Health and Paediatrics after earning a Bachelor of Nursing in 2006. In 2013, she graduated with First Class Honours in Veterinary Science from the University of Sydney and has since worked in small animal, mixed, and emergency practice across Canada and Australia.
She co-founded Vets: Stay, Go, Diversify – Down Under in 2019 and has held roles as a National Sales Specialist with Provet VI and a Clinical Research Project Manager with QUT and Queensland Health. Currently, she provides end-of-life care for pets while advancing research and advocacy efforts.
Passionate about suicide prevention in the veterinary profession, Alena co-founded VetHerd and is a certified LivingWorks safeTALK and ASIST instructor. She is completing a PhD at Griffith University's School of Applied Psychology, focusing on suicide prevention among Australian veterinarians.
