Dr Alex Santamaria
Qualifications: BVSc, BSc, MANZCVS (SAS) DACVS
Specialisation: Registered Specialist in Small Animal Surgery
Alex is a Registered Small Animal Surgical Specialist and a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.
She has a strong interest in soft tissue and reconstructive surgery with advanced training in interventional radiology. Alex is a Co-Director at Melbourne Animal Referral Services (MARS) and also works part time at Geelong Animal Referral Services (GARS). She is dedicated to veterinary education and enjoys helping vets of all career stages to extend their surgical skills.
Alexander Philp
Qualifications: Cert IV Veterinary Nursing, VTS (Anaesthesia & Analgesia)
Alexander is the Nurse Unit Manager at UVTHS with a special interest in anaesthesia. He enjoys teaching at all levels within the veterinary profession. He is a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Anaesthesia and Analgesia, and will begin the Masters program in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia through Edinburgh University in September 2023. Alexander has additional interest in research and won an award for his abstract presentation at WCVAA 2023.
Amber Kenney
Qualifications: MPT, MTC, CKTP, CCRT
Specialisation: Canine Rehabilitation
Since 2014, Amber has been a CRI teaching assistant around the world including Australia and Germany. Amber teaches into the Introduction to Canine Rehabilitation, Canine Rehabilitation Therapist, Canine Sports Medicine, Canine Rehabilitation Assistant, and Advanced Canine Rehabilitation Therapist courses. She founded Paws-itive Effects K9 Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation in 2015, a mobile canine rehabilitation service. She lives with her husband and two rescue dogs, Dozer the pit bull, and Harley the Shar-Pei/Chihuahua mix.
Anita Parkin
Qualifications: RVN, AVN, Dip (Surgery & ECC), VTS (Anesthesia & Analgesia), CVPP, TAE
Anita has been a veterinary nurse for over 30 years, with 10 years in GP and 20 in referral nursing and nurse management.
Anita has a Certificate IV in Vet Nursing as well as a Diploma in Surgery and ECC, and she is also VNCA Accredited Vet Nurse and a Registered Vet Nurse. She is also an IVAPM Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner and an AVTAA Veterinary Technician Specialist in Anaesthesia and Analgesia.
Catherine Tyler
Qualifications: Certificate IV Veterinary Nurse
Catherine has always nurtured a love for horses and animals, which inspired her to commence a Diploma of Horse Business Management at the Marcus Oldham College in Victoria. This progressed into veterinary nursing, with several years of experience across a range of veterinary practices in equine, small animal, surgery, emergency and general practice nursing.
Catherine has developed a special interest in continuing professional development and training in anaesthesia, analgesia and patient welfare. One of her passions is to work closely and holistically with brachycephalic patients through surgeries, pain management and handling.
Charleyne Scott
Qualifications: VTS (Anesthesia & Analgesia), DipVN (Emergency & Critical Care), Certificate IV TAE
Charleyne has 16 years of clinical nursing experience in practice in Australia and six years in university and specialist veterinary hospitals. She also spent four years working and teaching in the anaesthesia department at the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, before becoming a veterinary technician working in advanced translational medical research at the University of Sydney. Charleyne remains involved in clinical anaesthesia at various locations and has recently completed her Veterinary Technician Specialist credential in Veterinary Anaesthesia & Analgesia.
Cindy Grew
Qualifications: Cert IV Vet Nurse, Cert IV TAE
Cindy is the Marketing & Education Coordinator at VetCare B. Braun Pty Ltd Australia and New Zealand, and is a practicing veterinary nurse with more than ten years of experience. Cindy coordinates workshops, onsite and online training with vets and vet nurses. One of Cindy’s passions is caring for Australian native wildlife: she is a wildlife carer with WIRES, heading up the wildlife treatment division within the clinic. Cindy’s passion is sharing current skills and techniques with veterinary professionals and helping them achieve their potential.
Debra Laws
Qualifications: Dip in Animal Technology, Cert IV Veterinary Nursing (RVN), AFHEA, Elite Fear Free Cert, Cert IV TAE, Cert III Laboratory Animal Care, Cert in Large Animal Production
Debra’s career in animal care and veterinary nursing has extended over 35 years.
Deb’s most recent roles have been in a supervisory and teaching capacity at the University of Queensland in the School of Veterinary Science, with students from both the Veterinary Technology and the Veterinary Science degrees all passing through her calm and capable hands at some point.
Deb is very active within the vet nursing professional development field, and is keen to help progress the recognition of veterinary technology as a profession. Deb is the VNCA CPD committee chairperson, and the Queensland VNCA representative to the NIAC.
Dr Aaron Forsayeth
Qualifications: BVSc (Hons) MACVSc
Aaron graduated from the University of Queensland in 1996 and obtained membership in Veterinary Dentistry of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in 2004, under the leadership of Dr Gary Wilson. Soon after, they created Advanced Animal Dentistry.
Since that time Aaron has been actively involved in the Australian Veterinary Dental Society and the Veterinary Dentistry Chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists. Aaron contributes regularly to veterinary dental education and works exclusively in veterinary dental referral practice.
Dr Abbie Tipler
Qualifications: ATCL BVSc MANZCVS FANZCVS (Specialist Small Animal Surgeon)
Specialisation: Registered Specialist in Small Animal Surgery
Dr Abbie Tipler is a registered specialist in small animal surgery. In 2010 she sat her ANZCVS Memberships in Small Animal Surgery, and in 2016 was selected as head examiner for Memberships in Surgery. In 2022 she was the only candidate to pass ANZCVS Fellowship examinations in Small Animal Surgery, making her the only new ANZCVS Surgery Specialist that year. Abbie is a member of AO VET, a speaker and published author, and she lectures for the University of Queensland.
Abbie is the founder of the worldwide Small Animal Surgery Facebook Discussion Page, and has special interests in spinal surgery, orthopaedic surgery and surgery for brachycephalic breeds such as the French Bulldog.
